A. Keys. He and his associates, C. L. Payne, M. C. Payne, J. W. Wooten, J. C. Payne, and J. W. Saunders (later S. C. Saunders) spent the summer of 1914, in Mt. Morrisburg, New York, organizing the Baptist Association of the Transylvania State University. The purpose of the organization was to encourage and assist those students who were dedicated to God and their church and who wished to share this faith in college. The Board of Directors, which included these men, became, soon after the organization of the association, the governing body for the campus. In the fall of 1913, three Baptist ministers from the Rochester, NY, area, were asked to serve on the Board of Directors. They were J. R. Johnson, I. H. Ruffner, and R. D. Graham.
